There are many stylish people out there and there are also many non-stylish ones out there. The problem is, however, that too many of us think we can buy style with flashy logos and IT bags. What very few realise is that style is something personal to all of us. It is both ever changing and consistent. And some of the greatest style mavens have realised it does sometimes contain an element of gaudiness. Remember Coco Chanel? Some people considered her vulgar and yet today we think of her as one of the most stylish ladies of that period. So style has to do not only with self-confidence a la Coco Chanel, it also has to do with a lot of self-knowledge.
Having style means not looking like everyone else, but looking like you. It means embracing your body and personality and then picking out the items that resonate the most with you. Do you enjoy wearing colour? Or are you a black and white lady who wears statement hats? When everyone else is wearing gladiator sandals, you’re the one with the ballet pumps or heels. Having style means not following the crowds but finding your own unique voice and signature look. But it doesn’t mean falling into the trap of not experimenting with new fabrics, patterns and cuts.
Another item to look out for is comfort. Are you comfortable tottering around in 6-inch heels or would you much rather wear 3-inch heels? Sure, 6-inch heels look amazing but they sometimes make the person who wears them look as though she’s trying too hard to be sexy.
Clothing that’s too tight also fall into this category. Are you comfortable or would you rather wear pants that are a bit more loose-fitting than skin-tight jeans? Besides, those jeans only ever look good on 16-year-olds.
One of the easiest ways to get more stylish is to find flattering cuts. This is something that is made so easy when you’re shopping for designer trousers at Michelle. These trousers are all cut in the classic shapes that most women love, and prefer wearing.
