Not all women dress alike but the basics will always be with us. These basic items are the perennial white shirt, formal court shoes, leather handbag, and stylish jacket. Women buy these items to ensure their wardrobe’s foundation is diverse enough to go from lunch to the boardroom without too much fuss.
A good jacket can transform nearly any outfit into something dazzling. This jacket need not fit into a particular mould, either; it can be whatever the wearer wants it to be.
But there are a few types that can help to create a splendid look. These four jackets are the denim jacket, the trench coat, the wool coat, and the leather jacket.
Denim jacket
A denim jacket in a dark wash goes with everything and should last a lifetime. The advantage of a dark wash is that the lines that do appear are there because the owner’s body created them. This makes the denim jacket feel even more special. Try to buy the best denim your pocket can afford so that you would still be looking good after a few years of wearing the jacket.
Wool coat
This generally makes sense in climates with cold, wet winters. If this applies then go and get as many of these as you can, whether they are single or double-breasted. Double-breasted does not work on women with a big build; they should go for single-breasted. View this as an investment and do not be afraid to pay more than you’d normally pay for a regular coat. You and your Fenn Wright Manson coat should still be skipping out for lunch with the girls at age 85.
Trench coat
The trench coat is reminiscent of Old Hollywood. Tan seems to be the most popular colour but it is possible to find black trench coats. It pays to personalise your coat, perhaps by adding a great lining to it or to find a coat with an interesting collar. This would ensure people talk about your coat all evening long.
Leather jacket
Even regular folks without the Harley Davidson can wear this jacket and look great in it. A leather jacket is one of the more versatile items on this list – it can be dressed up or down.
